Don’t Spit In The Wind

May 13th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Every so often I feel like a tourist in a foreign land. Behold the sight that greeted me this morning when I entered a co-workers office:

Do you know what that is? It is a half-gallon pickle jar filled with tobacco spit. I know . Ewww!
Hard to believe, but it could be worse.
OKLAHOMA CITY — A [...]

Birth Story

May 8th, 2009 · 4 Comments

I have never written about the birth of my children because there is nothing much to tell.  I drop ‘em quick and easy. Moreover, I am a firm believer that there is more to women than their ability to give birth. The experience of childbirth does not make me bigger, badder, better as a woman. [...]

Much political bruhaha is stirring around this bill.  Texas Republicans are carrying on about stopping those wily [...]

SATURDAY OCTOBER 11, 2008 ON ABC at 11:00 am CST

Ooo yeah!  It’s Texas-OU weekend!  This year is going to be good as 5th ranked Texas crushes #1 ranked Oklahoma.
Shhh! don’t tell anyone, but I’m especially excited to see that cutie patootie Sam Bradford, Oklahoma’s “accidental quarterback” in action.  Do you know about this kid?  A [...]

Entourage

October 2nd, 2008 · 10 Comments

Guess who partied like a rock star last Saturday?  Well, actually I partied like a rock star’s hanger-on.  Y’all I went to the State Fair.  Yes, the fair I was afraid to go to.  And what was the very first thing that happened?  We went to meet my best friend, K. at the canned goods [...]

Olympic Ranting Team

August 9th, 2008 · 7 Comments

Last night we watched the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Unbelievable. Awe inspiring. Amazing. Of course there was the one fly in the ointment. NBC trotted out that guy who is guaranteed to make me yell at my television every time: Bob Costas. I hate that man. HATE.
Last night’s scream at [...]

Why Zombies Don’t Attack Texas

August 5th, 2008 · 14 Comments

The other evening we were discussing an unpleasant incident that involved a maniac and a crowd of people.  Immediately my husband,  son and darling little daughter chimed in,  “Why didn’t anybody shoot him?”.  When I explained that the incident did not happen in Texas, they all nodded knowingly.
It was then that my son told me [...]

TX Poppet vs. Big Tex

July 19th, 2008 · 11 Comments

On October 21, 1979, I was on the Midway at the State Fair of Texas.  On that day, there was an unusually high wind whipping through the fairgrounds.  I wanted to ride the flying swings, but they were beginning to knock together.  My mother who has a terror of heights not only forbid me from riding [...]
