Whoo! It’s hot and dry here but there are cool things happening.
First, Giveaways!
- Ree is giving away You’re Not The Only One- Intimate stories from the Internet edited by Sarah J Peach. A very cool book for a very worthy cause. Enter at My Life As A Hotfessional.
- Blissfully Domestic online magazine is giving away a great big basic canning kit for preserving all your summer garden goodness, courtesy of Ball. Enter here.
- Finally, thanks to everyone who sent me ideas for summer reading. I’m sending a copy of Driving Sideways by Jess Riley to Margalit of What Was I Thinking?
Second, Dear Sister Carolyn Marie who told me “Nobody likes a smart mouth.”, apparently you were mistaken. Witchypoo over at Psychicgeek gave me a Peep of the Week award for my comment on her post about her unfortunate incident with the holy roller faith healer. Vindication for my smart mouthed twelve year old self has arrived.
Praise be.
Finally, while we are on the subject of smart mouthed kids, my daughter Bunny tickled me silly today. We stopped for a fast food lunch and she ordered a gigantic chicken thingy and I ordered the kids meal because really? A little fast food goes a long way. When our lunch arrived she was delighted to find that I had a child’s book in my bag with a place on the cover to put my name and my age. Naturally, she wrote in Poppet, age 44 then instructed me to play nicely with it. As we were pulling back onto the main drag, a cyclist whipped in front of me.
“Oh! Where did he come from?”
“Those bicyclists need to be more careful!”
“No Bunny, it was my fault. I should have been paying closer attention to what was going on around me.”
“Huh. What were they thinking of giving a little 44 year old a driver’s licence? I think you should leave the driving to us grownups from now on.”
Very sound advice indeed.

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog…I’m so glad I found yours! I’m new to canning, but am wanting to learn, and yours is the second blog that I have recently found that can give me some good advice. Your pickle recipe sounds wonderful! I’ll be checking back for more!

Fun links to fun stuff. And your picture today is terrific–the fan, the baby, the cooking–I’ve actually struck that pose a time or two before.

Isn’t it interesting to hear your words come out of their mouths? Horrifying at the same time, but definitely funny.

A smart mouth is something to celebrate, unless you’re Dennis Mitchell’s parents.
