I know a dark secluded place A place where no one knows your face A glass of wine, a soft embrace You’re at Hernando’s Hideaway, Ole!

Spouse took me to the most thrilling little nightclub the other evening, Scat Jazz Lounge. We walked past it about three times before finding it. It’s located at the end of a blind alley. You take a freight elevator down to the basement to find the entrance. I felt so naughty, like I was entering a speak-easy where a burly man would ask me for the secret “passwoid”.
Once inside it is an elegant understated little club. The decor is beautiful. The people are beautiful. Most importantly, the music when we were there was hot! The little dance floor was packed with people of all ages dancing to Trio Cubano’s intricate jazz riffs on traditional latin favorites.
I’m not a mojito gal, but they were flying from the bar faster than a salsa dancer’s hips. Spouse and I hunkered in with a couple of club sodas and had a marvelous time watching the show. Silly as it seems, our favorite part of the evening was watching the folks getting off the elevator. Their eyes were round and you could just tell they were thinking, “I’ve seen the movie, Blade. I know about nightclubs hidden down dark alleys and accessed by freight elevators. The first vampire I see, I’m out of here!” Then they take in the glamorous club and you can see them smile and relax and prepare for a night of fun.
I’m looking forward to going there again, soon. Maybe next time I’ll even be the cool kid and get in without having to say the password.

Oooooh. Sounds like so much fun.
There’s a Mexican restaurant in East Lansing that is down this little hidden stairway - best enchiladas and margaritas in the world. But, sadly, no entertainment.

Hot music. Reminds me of the “Benny Goodman Story” In every scene Benny Goodman (playing himself) walks up to a person and asks, “Do you like hot music?”. He was not an actor or it wasn’t written well, or something
