I Should Have Played Golf Instead

This weekend was spent puttering about. I had a surprise day off on Friday, so I decided to give the family room a deep clean. Ack! What a can of worms I opened! By the time Spouse arrived home from work, I was flopped on the couch with a crazed look in my eyes panting something about dust bunnies and hefty bags.

Before I’d recovered it was time to go to Bunnie’s latest show. Her theater class had written a play about Batman and she was playing The Joker’s zany sidekick, Harley Quinn. The kids were very cute but every time the little boy playing the Joker referred to my daughter’s character as “My Sweet”, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, my jaw clenched and my teeth started grinding. I KNOW it was only a play, but I couldn’t help wanting to scream, “No! She’s MY sweet!”. I have a feeling the dating years are going to go very hard on me.

Saturday was spent chauffeuring the boy all over town. The slave cylinder on his car is leaking clutch fluid (if it’s not one thing, it’s another), so it was up to me to get him to and from work then to the tuxedo rental shop and the florist because next Saturday is Prom night!

He went with a modern version of the white dinner jacket.

Sunday I tried a new yoga class with Spouse, put a turkey in the oven for dinner, and crashed into bed like I’d just run a marathon. Can I get a day off to recover from my days off? No? Then I’ll just settle for going back to work. I need the rest.

My weekend was like that too — all work and not rest. I’m already looking forward to the coming weekend.

OH man–you do have your hands full. “My sweet,” that part was too funny. I can imagine the cringe.

Oh, I do know about those “days off”. I have a thorough cleaning of Shortman’s room coming up in my future.

Maybe I’ll just stay in Chicago.
